Who are we

Sand Supplies Pty Ltd is an independent privately owned company established in 2013 and now operate 3 sites locally, Glen Forbes, Grantville and The Gurdies.

Quarry assets in Grantville and The Gurdies were acquired from Donmix. At this time, Sand Supplies also commenced the development of a new site at Glen Forbes.

The sand produced is used throughout the Bass Coast and Cardinia Shires, as well as being distributed to the Mornington Peninsula, North from Dandenong to Port Melbourne and Coburg and the East to Montrose and Healesville.

Sand sourced and distributed from our quarries has enabled local major construction projects in the Bass Coast Shire, including the Wonthaggi desalination plant, Wonthaggi wind turbines, highways, roads, municipal offices, theatres and cultural centres, sports fields, hospitals, colleges, schools and preschools.

Our sand has been used in many homes built in and around the Bass Coast Shire, enabling growth in the local areas. Sand Supplies directly employs over 20 staff, all living within the local area. We also employ the services of many specialised consultants for planning, environment, health and safety, as well as subcontractors for transport, earthmoving, plumbing and drainage, engineering and fabrication and mechanical repairs.

All quarry sites adhere to Work Authority requirements and multiple other legislations.

Radial Stacker

Glen Forbes (WA970)

Our primary site location.

The Quarry site provides the source of fine to medium grade sand that is blended with coarse sand extracted from Grantville to produce the ideal grading for blended concrete sand.

As is the case with almost every quarry in the Westernport sand extraction region, the site was previously cleared for agriculture. The Glen Forbes site was a low yielding pasture for beef cattle grazing; cattle are still grazed on part of the site today.

Approximately 360,000 tonnes of fine to medium sand is quarried at the site annually. The raw sand is then blended, washed and processed in a new multi-million dollar processing plant that uses worlds best practice to produce concrete sand.

The Gurdies  (WA210)

Final rehabilitation and revegetation is underway to bring the site back to natural landscape.

Inside the boundary of this area is a 20-metre-wide buffer zone that exists to mitigate the impact of quarrying operations on the surrounding environment.

The site is located on Crown Land inside a larger area that was historically reserved for gravel and sand extraction by the State Government. The reservation of this land for sand extraction prevented it from being cleared for farming and as a result, this remnant vegetation is now considered to have a high conservation value. The area is now known as "The Gurdies nature conservation reserve” and there is no prospect for expansion or development of new quarries in this area.

Grantville (WA532)

Quarry site for coarse sand.

The site provides the source of coarse sand required for blending with the fine to medium sand extracted from Glen Forbes to produce the ideal grading for blended concrete sand. This site occupies an area of 36 hectares.  Inside the boundary of this area is a 20- to 50-metre-wide buffer zone that exists to mitigate the impact of quarrying operations on the surrounding environment.

The site is located on Crown Land inside a much larger area (over 500 hectares) that was reserved for gravel and sand extraction by the State Government in 1921. The reservation of this land for sand extraction prevented it from being cleared for farming and as a result, this remnant vegetation is now considered to have a high conservation value. The area is now known as “The Grantville nature conservation reserve” and there is no prospect for expansion or development of quarries in this area.
